Description
In ancient religions, the cone was a symbol of fertility, and the hero of ancient Greek myths, the god Dionysus, was accompanied by maenad servants with thyrsus crowned with cones. The pine cone is still often used in the land heraldry of modern Russia and other countries, where it usually symbolizes the richness of the natural resources of the territory. An interesting fact: ripe pine cones are sensitive to changes in the humidity of the surrounding air, opening up at low air humidity and shrinking at high air humidity. Therefore, where precise values are not required, cones can be used as a natural hygrometer, a device that determines air humidity.
