The iconostasis is a necessary and inalienable accessory of the Orthodox church, the main architectural and semantic element of the interior.

The iconostasis (cf. Greek εἰκονοστάσιον) is an altar partition, more or less solid, from the north to the south wall of the temple, consisting of several rows of orderly placed icons that separates the altar of the Orthodox church from the rest of the room.

At the end of the second millennium, or more precisely, at the beginning of the twentieth century, when technological progress stepped forward, a small “revolution” took place, but it did not destroy the foundations. Iconostases made of faience began to be erected in churches of Russian cities.
